Known
since the mid-19th century in the French province by the same
name, the Brittany is the smallest of the versatile gun dogs.
This breed is points and retrieves game, and works equally well
in open country or dense cover. The Brittany measures from 17.5
to 20.5 inches at the shoulders and weighs from 30 to 40 lbs.
Brittanys are either born tailless or have their tail docked
shortly after birth. The tail is docked to prevent injury to
the dog while running in the fields and forests.
When not enjoying the sporting life, the Brittany
can content himself at home as gentle friend. This is a fun-loving,
energetic, friendly, gentle and affectionate breed, known to
be patient and trustworthy with children. Intelligent and eager
to please, with daily exercise the Brittany makes an excellent
family pet and companion.
